The Concessionaire for Novo Hospital de Vigo by the hand of Valencian designer Andreu Belenguer, planned a new perception of hospital furniture interior, unifying the criteria to meet function and emotio, focusing to the user.
Andreu Belenguer defends the concept of human connection with the objects that surround us and our interaction with them to the point of being extensions of our own body. Our relationship with objects affects our behavior with the environment and therefore educate or manipulate our psychological universe. We own objects and they have us thus generating a functional and emotional symbiosis and. Under this concept has been redirected Novo Hospital furniture to emotionally calm, restrained, formally smooth and visually clean concept, in order to create an organized environment and quality. All designed for the user of the new hospital, sits on a emotionally positive and relaxed atmosphere.
To achieve it, Andreu Belenguer designed exclusive furniture of the hospital. Specifically we are talking about more than one hundred desks and public counter and sofas that make up many seating areas around the hospital as a meeting area, where users can disassociate the clinical space and placed in a neutral space.
Both, desks and counters, such as sofas room, are conceptually inspired by the symbolism of Celtic culture. These are designed thinking convey simplicity, robustness and stability, corporate values of Concessionaire wants to convey to its users. Therefore they are designed under the simplicity and minimalism, but giving movement and dynamism with curves beneath items surface. The strength is evident in the use of large material thickness, increasing stability in base and with the inclination of the side planes.
In the case of the sofas in the living areas, Andreu Belenguer has sought inspiration from the sea, recreating the formal synthesis of a whale, creating an element of asymmetric and unconventional rest. The Whale sofa invites you to observe, simply sit with multiple positions, so that the user interact more creatively with this object. Its shape is also linked to the composition of three blades which refers to the Celtic symbol trisquel, whose symbolic meaning of union between body, mind and soul, giving all connotations to be located in a meeting area and break.
Consultion rooms are designed separating the work area of the user service. To achieve this, we have redesigned the concept of table query so that the computer workstation of the physician is slightly separated from customer service area at the same table. This intend that patient talks evaluation is conducted without visual interference of peripheral elements thus providing greater organization of space and a feeling to the user greater proximity and empathy.
During items prescription, it has been predisposed special attention in ergonomics and use of furniture set. Our close interaction with objects make them an extension of ourselves, so this choice can act positively or negatively on our health.
